Tropical landscaping frames a large pool deck set with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and tables. Find a sunny spot, or a shaded one beneath a Tiki hut built by the Seminole Tribe.
Heated, and it has been for seventy years
The pool is about twenty feet by forty, with a proper deep end. Long enough to swim in rather than stand in, and some guests do exactly that, early, before the deck fills up.
The heating is not a recent addition. One of the two oldest photographs of this place, a postcard from when the building was still called South Shore, shows a sign out by the road. It reads HEATED POOL.
That was worth advertising in the 1950s. It is still the reason people book in January.
The shuffleboard court beside it is the same vintage.
